Arts Center, I Choose You!

Butts In the Seats: I was walking in to work on Saturday and met a woman who has offices in the arts center who told me that there was a Pokemon in the fountain in front of the building. Sure enough, as part of the new augmented reality game Pokemon Go, when she pointed her phone at the fountain, the virtual map overlay showed a Pokemon in the fountain. She then lamented that someone else was battling to capture it. I assume it was the kid standing on the sidewalk just south of the fountain.

In the last week or so, the new Pokemon Go game has absolutely blown up the college campus we have been living on for the last three weeks, and while for a few days I figured that the reason there were so many Pokemon Go-ers around me was because of the fact that I was on a college campus surrounded by a bunch of teenage kids, the only thing I had to do to dismiss that theory was get on a bus going towards downtown and see not one but three pairs of people walking side by side, silently flicking their phones every few feet. No, they were not taking dumb pictures of the sidewalk or a kind of pretty plant if you looked at it from that particular angle, they were "catching" little yellow squirrels. As the article points out however, while these silent pairs of people walking down the street might seem a little sad or 'what has this world come to' at first, the new phenomenon might really be able to be used to get people back into the arts through luring them into art class facilities, museums, etc. If we non- Pokemon Go-ers can look at it this way, then maybe all of the being bumped into on the sidewalk or on your way to class might not be so bad after all.

Pokemon Go, you can't walk 5 feet with out hearing about someone complains about everyone playing it or seeing people playing it. The app has its pluses and negatives. But i think its getting out of hand. People are complaining about people going on there property. People are being stupid and walking into traffic. The app seems to be hindering peoples natural ability to function as humans and its said. Yes I'm sure its a fun game having never played it my self but people are putting there lives and other at risk and thats where it needs to stop. People need to think about the priorities that when crossing a street you shouldn't catch that rare pokemon but that you should pay attention to traffic and the people around you. One can say all they want that well if i get hurt its just me but chances are its not going to be kist you getting hurt chances are your putting peoples lives around you at risk. At that point is the app really worth. Just think next time when you open up the app, is there anyone around I'm putting at danger when i try to catch this pokemon.
