A Way Without Words: Mummenschanz Mimes Celebrate 40

NPR: Mummenschanz isn't your white-faced, Marcel Marceau mime. The bizarre masks, costumes and choreography cloak the human form to tell stories that convey messages about our lives.

This seems like such a fascinating art form. I would love to attend a performance. Its so different than anything Ive ever really come across. This seems like the prefect thing for families to go to. Because its both silly and really makes you think at the same time, which is a rather impressive combination. It would be a good way to further a childs exposure to art at a young age, since it seems like it would really hold their attention well. It would be fascinating to be a fly on the wall at one of their design team meetings. I also like how they managed to create such crazy costumes and such with mostly recycled "junk."

Im normally not a huge fan of performance type art, but i think this idea of taking simple times and shapes and having people inside of them, is both brilliant and creepy. When watching you know there is a human inside yet it doesn't seem humanly possible, while watching this thing come alive is truly amazing. not to mention that this company has been around for 40 years as a mime troupe speaks volumes for the art form.
