Creating Goodspeed's Artist Village: The first of its kind in the nation, its a dream realized

YouTube: Goodspeed Musicals' dream of building an Artists Village is finally a reality. Seventeen new homes to be used for actor housing on the Goodspeed Campus in East Haddam, Conn. are complete. The new actor housing initiative represents the largest capital project in Goodspeed history with a total budget of $5.5 million dollars all of which were spent in-state. Eighteen contractors and twenty-six suppliers from the state of Connecticut, many located right in Middlesex County, were used for this "green" project.

I love that this project will benefit not only the Goodspeed and its actors, but also the community as a whole. The sheer amount of jobs that this project created (even if only for a brief time) is phenomenal. This seems like a win-win situation for all and a great investment for the Goodspeed. If well-maintained, these houses can continue to support Goodspeed artists for years and years to come. I know that comfortable and well-maintained housing is important to all artists who travel for their work and are not given the option to choose their own housing. No artist will hesitate to work with the Goodspeed on the premise of the living situation for quite some time. I respect that the company cares so much about the well-being of its visiting employees that it would make this investment instead of another investment that had the potential to bring in more money.

I think that what the company has done for it's visiting employees is phenomenal. I have worked at many theaters and stayed in a lot of different housing ranging from college dorm rooms to run-down houses with leaking plumbing. Living in housing such as what the Goodspeed has supplied for its employees enables artists to do their best work. They don't have to worry about what's going on at home, or about what new terror they'll return to after work. It will also encourgage artists to consider the Goodspeed, not that they need anything other than the reputation, but the housing is now a very large added bonus.

This housing project also brought a lot of jobs into the area, as Shannon said, and used all local contractors which helped boost the local economy. These houses will last for much longer than other housing opportunities and will turn out to be a good investment in the long run as opposed to renting housing for employees. Overall, I think the Goodspeed made an amazing decision when they decided to build this artist's village.

I think that it is great that it is great that they have created a space for the visiting artists I think that is great that they have fully though about what the people who work there really need so that they are able to focus completely on the job that they are there to do. I think that a community of theatre is a very interesting idea. I think that this project is a great investment that will help the goodspeed theatre for years to come
