Stamos, Gershon say hello to 'Bye Bye Birdie'

Post Gazette: "When John Stamos heard he'd be starring opposite Gina Gershon on Broadway this fall, he was beyond psyched.
Not because he was intrigued to meet and work with Gershon on a revival of 'Bye Bye Birdie,' although he was. Not because both had built up impressive Broadway credits, although they have."

This article was so interesting and blew my mind a little. I had no idea Stamos has been on Broadway three times before now in "Nine" or "How to Succeed" or "Cabaret." I also had no idea Matthew Broderick was in "How to Succeed" or that Antonio Banderas was in "Nine." I also had no idea who Gina Gershon really was and that she was in "Ugly Betty." Though this article didn't focus on the upcoming show, it did give a lot about the actors past that was interesting.

I have very little hope for this production. I think quite possibly, even with the talent of Dick Van Dyke and Chita Rivera, this is one of my least favorite Broadway musicals. Not only does this show feature a dreadfully dull script, it also rejoices in painfully squeaky teenage singing voices. Personal feelings aside, any show the focuses on the fact its main stars have been in Hollywood films looks bad to me. A play relying on fame is asking for problems. This article did not give me one fact about the actual production of Bye Bye Birdie, just the filmography of the main actors.

I once saw a local production of Bye Bye Birdie, and I have to say that it is one of my favorite musicals. I was interested to see that John Stamos actually was offered the role of Conrad Birdie, because when I first heard that he would be in this production, that's the role I assumed he would have. I also found it interesting that John Stamos has replaces three actors on Broadway before, because he continues to get roles. I always imagine him as he was on Full House. So, it's nice to see that he is still acting.

This article surprised me, I originally thought that upon seeing Stamos and Bye Bye Birdie in the same sentence that of course hed be playing Conrad. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I was wrong and he was playing Albert. I also enjoyed learning about the fact that hes been on Broadway 3 times before. Other than that I think the show is cute, and I hope that Stamos and Gershon have the chemistry on stage to pull it off

I agree with Mary in that I have not very much hope for this production. When I think John Stamos, my mind quickly jumps to full house. He is just one of those actors that gets stuck in a certain roll and can't get away from it. Another example of this would be Mark Hamill playing Luke Skywalker. He couldn't do much else but Harrison Ford did move on. House is even mentioned in this article. It might have been better if they just tried not to bring it up. I just can't imagine seeing Stamos in any kind of theatre and I don't think he could live up to the great people he replaced in the three musicals mentioned. I also agree with Mary in that this is an article about Bye Bye Birdie and the show is not mentioned. That makes this article awful because it really in my opinion has no point. The article should talk about the show and concept. Not just Stamos and Gershon.
