I think it is great that there is an August Wilson Center opening in Pittsburgh. Not only was August Wilson, as this article states "a man worth remembering for many reasons" , his work is an integral part of pittsburgh culture. Last year in basic design class we all had to to research an assigned location of some historical value in Pittsburgh. i was assigned The Hill District and plunged into research not knowing much about the hill. I could have never imagined all the information i found and how relevant it all seemed to how pittsburgh is today, however I realized that a lot of that culture had also been lost. Later that year while reading August Wilson's Fences I saw many connections between the play and my previous research and it became apparent just how accurate, careful and successful Wilson had been at capturing and preserving in his script the lives of the people that are an essential part of pittsburgh history, in a way that no other medium could.
The August Wilson Center will ensure that these important works continue to make it to large audiences and that an essential part of Pittsburgh culture is not forgotten.
