Surface: Microsoft SecondLight Adds Extra Layers to Surface

Gizmodo: "Microsoft seems to be throwing every wild touchscreen idea it can into research right now, first prototyping their weird SideSight cellphone motion detector earlier this week, and now revealing SecondLight, a “magic lens” compatriot to their Surface multitouch table."

interesting concept, yet microsoft never seems to get these things to work quite right. they've been working on touchscreens and multitouch technology for a number of years now, and we haven't seen anything released to the market yet, let alone a prototype that works as they intedned

I wonder why Microsoft feels that they need to do this using a piece of hardware, rather than a software application. It seems that you could just have a way of toggling between views, rather than having to put an actual piece of material on top of your screen. It seems like they're just trying to find new things to sell.
