This is kind of cool though I can see how programs like this could be problematic because PDFs are not only used for convenience but for security as well. I wonder how this would work with a PDFed CAD file...

Yeah, the one major problem i can see is that a lot of PDFed files are meant to not be "edited to your hearts content". Great tool when in the right hands, not so great tool when in the wrong hands.

I don't know if this is so much of a "wrong hands" kind of issue, but indeed one of the reasons to use a pdf is to add that element of security. The problem I can see here, and i guess this new application really just facilitates this in that if someone came in an d edited your pdf and then overwrote it on a server somewhere, the security is gone. Perhaps a good workaround would be to have a secure pdf file type that could not be converted to an editable type, however that may just delay the cycle where then everyone goes to secure pdfs, and then someone develops a hack to modify them as well

This is a handy tool to have. But I feel that some security of files could be compromised by this tool, because people could modify and re-save the pdf with unwanted changes. It is a good idea for personal use, but for a professional environment, it might be harmful. The other downside is it only converts into word documents. This is sad, because many other document types are used with pdf export and there is no way to get those documents back.

I'm not sure if this program works around this, but Adobe does allow you to create secure PDFs. It seems like this would make it so they cannot be converted and edited by this application, but I'm not really sure. Anybody want to test it out?

Well I am surprised if someone hasn’t heard of or used on of the many PDF editing programs out there, free and paid. But this is an intersting site nonetheless. Being able to edit a pdf from any computer is a nice convenience for the modern business and academic person. I wonder if this site will actuall stay free though, or if they will start to charge once they realize the profit that could be made.

Besides dealing with security on the file itself, you have to also think about what you really want them to process. Some companies, universities, etc.. would probably wig out if they found out their employee's were using this in anyway for work. There's an ongoing argument going on about this that's centered around data control and location.
