'I Love You' isn't perfect

Post Gazette: "I enjoyed the performers, the wit of some songs and the zip or pathos of others, but it just doesn't add up to a coherent, compelling whole. The songs generally stay discrete rather than working off each other and building toward some climax or revelation."

I don't think this show is meant to connect and have this fluid movement from one song to the next. It was written in a more cabaret style, which is why so many cabaret theaters and schools do this show. Anyone who expects this to be a well connected piece of storytelling musical theater will naturally be disappointed, considering it doesn't really matter whether the cast or direction is good or bad, but whether or not you like the writing style.

I've seen a lot of posters for "I Love You" around campus and based on those I thought that the play was about something totally different then it actually was. That being said, I also don't believe it was a musical until reading this article. Probably just noticed the fairly provocative posters that suggest a play about two almost waring spouses of some kind (I know, I'm theater ignorant on most levels).I only bring this up since the play (based purely on what I've seen) is advertised as a story of some kind, and not a "cabaret style" as the post above suggested. I don't have any issues with this style of theater, but the way it was advertised to me had me interested in this play in a way that apparently it would not deliver, and I'm willing to bet I'm not alone in that area.
