Cambodia's first rock opera opens next month

Seattle Times Newspaper: "Cambodia's first rock opera will premiere in Phnom Penh next month, a cultural milestone in the Southeast Asian country where performing arts were banned during the brutal Khmer Rouge years."

Not only is this exciting in its fusion of an old and culturally rich story meeting Rent, but also in that it comes at the close of the ban on theatre. You would think that having the ban on theatre lifted they would ease into it slowly, but no, jumping in right away with this new exciting form. Its really impressive to hear that.

I find it extremely difficult to imagine being in a nation where arts and entertainment were outlawed. I'm glad to hear that Cambodia is bringing their own perspective to the rock-opera genre because their view is on suppressed art is such a strange concept for us Western folk.
