Can These Apps Help You When Your HR Department Fails?

www.fastcompany.com: No matter what the issue or challenge, there seems to be an app-based attempt at a solution. And workplace issues are no exception. Now, employees with issues ranging from sexual harassment and difficult coworkers to wage theft and labor regulation violations have several apps to which they can turn for help.

I think I'll start out by saying that I don't believe that there is any genuine replacement for a human in a "human relations department." That being said it can be hard at the time if you don't feel that your voice is being heard or that there isn't someone to reach out too. That's where I think that these come into play. They are there to help people make that first step and find those resources that they need in the hard times. They even say that “If it’s anything close to being a legal issue, we stay away from it,” which automatically puts them in a safer place of just guiding people to the right resources and not trying to make the apps or technology fix the problem without any human interaction. Like all things in this time of technology it will take time and have a few bumps in the road, but all will come out in the end.

I think that in light of the current climate of many companies with the lasts rounds of allegations and failures of Human Resources to help those who have been hurt that these apps might be a helpful additional resource to help with in some cases in ways that we previously have not had available to us before. In particular the STOP IT app seems like something that could be very useful in conjunction with a good Human Relations department. Especially as many of the problems many are having to deal with can be hard to admit to a person face-to-face. However, this does cause just a little bit of worry as it is so anonymous that it could potentially allow for false accusations without any recourse. However, the potential uses for this app and course of action really seems to be much more helpful and encouraging than harmful. All in all though these apps will not be as effective as they can without the right kind of people on the other end.
