As unfortunate as it is to read this letter, and discover the slow demise of this theatre, I am left pondering about Darwinism. Survival of the fittest has extended itself to social situations with social Darwinism, so should there also be a branch of survival analogies and analytics paired with the arts and artistic institutions? Movements within the art world could be seen as the evolution of a craft, always competing and reinventing themselves to meet the ever changing desires of a society. In comparison to the Art community, theatre has been through much less of evolutionary cycle, leading me to wonder if the state of performance has stagnated. Theaters, like The Colony, are barely holding on, struggling to survive. Is there a decline in support and success because the theatre has not evolved? Should theatres start shrugging off the "this is how it's always been done" business model and adapt to a new and wild 21st century?
