Recording: Five Key Things Recording Engineers Should Know

I appreciated that this article stressed the basic things people often forget about when talking about recording and audio production. Now that DAWs are central to so much studio work, people are getting more caught up with the software side of things and possibly leaving less attention to the basics. Just because you’re a whiz on the software side of things doesn’t help you with cable management or microphone selection/placement/etc. I definitely agree that it would be helpful to know basic cable repair (this also definitely applies to live sound situations) because you never know when things will break or what musicians will try and do (or accidentally do). On that note, it is definitely helpful to know musician lingo, if not know how to play some instruments. Knowing how to tune and muffle drums so that they come cross well when you record is something a drummer may not know.
