www.cirquefascination.com: It’s one thing to take a sad song and make it better. But a happy one? It makes the creators of “Love” seem awful hard on themselves.
When Cirque du Soleil began a one-by-one process to “refresh” its Las Vegas shows, it started with “Zumanity” last year and no one argued with that.
But next up, “Love”? It was an instant hit for Cirque and The Mirage in 2006, rivaling the water spectacle “O” for ticket sales on the Strip.

I’m really happy to read this for a lot of reasons. I had heard from a few people that had seen it and had also seen other Cirque Du Soleil shows that LOVE did not quite stack up to others. I guess what I didn’t realize about Cirque was their willingness to change. To hear that they will be updating every show on the Vegas strip is something that may seem unsettling at first, hinting that their revenue or sales may be going down, but I think it’s the opposite. They know their shows are good and people are coming, and they have the resources to amp it up, so why not? All of Cirque’s shows in Vegas are huge in every aspect, so to hear that they touched nearly every part of LOVE makes me a little concerned that it will take them a long time to do other shows and they will be closed for longer as well. Overall, I am still pleased to hear this.
This is a very interesting situation that you don't hear about often. The producers of the show were not fully into the production and want to make changes, but the audience loves it. I was in Vegas last summer and saw two Cirque shows, I saw the Criss Angel performance of Believe and the show Zarkana. The Criss Angel show was really good because it was him, and I've see many of this television shows where he does some incredible magic, but their really was not Cirque in it. I Was expecting Cirque to mix with Criss Angel's magic but it was just a magicians show produced by Cirque. So reading about the Beatles production I would be interested in knowing how much of a Beatles remembrance concert it is and how much Cirque performance is in it. The Zarkana show was absolutely incredible it was classic Cirque with new and interesting circus acts and believe set and costuming. It was one of the updated shows the article talks about and I really hope that Cirque made the choice to keep their shows what their company has produced in the past because thats why people like it.
am happy the production team at Cirque is revamping shows that have not been changed for over ten years, and especially about the new addition of media. I think using the floor as a project surface could be extremely effective in Cirque shows, especial one as psychedelic as LOVE.
I have never seen this show, and have never discussed with anyone who has, but based on this article it seems very interesting - I never thought Cirque could be combined with music such as the Beatles. In my head, there are two different kinds of music: there's music you can perform to, and there's music just for listening. Beyoncé is music you can perform to, classical music is music you can perform to - the Beatles have always just been a band to me. It'd be very interesting to see how the two are married, and it would change through the progression of Beatles music over time.
Although I've only seen clips of Cirque, I'm definitely happy to see that they are incorporating media now. Despite of how widely used media is for live events and concerts, media is still pretty new to theatre, and I feel like a lot of people are still holding doubts and reservations towards media as to whether theatre needs/should use media at all. The fact that such a renowned show like Cirque is incorporating media into their show is definitely a validation and confirmation of how when media is used correctly, it can really transform a show and make it better without changing the character of the show. Just like the sounds and costumes that are also being revamped, media is there to support the storytelling and creating the world of the show. The picture in this article looks really cool and I can't wait to see more.
