This is a great trend that we are starting to see especially in themed entertainment. I was at SATE this week where they talked a lot about emerging technologies that will be implemented into entertainment everywhere, one of which being virtual reality and augmented reality. Years ago I went to Disney quest and experience virtual reality on the Aladdin ride as well as a space alien ride. Inside i felt a lot of motion sickness and the screen was so close to my face it was hard to focus on anything. At SATE a speaker came on to talk about his involvement in virtual reality in Germany. The Europia park has actually implemented a virtual reality headset onto a roller coaster. The roller coaster was old and needed something new, with the use of virtual reality the theme park creators were able to implement whatever environment they wanted. They also were able to implement their characters into the coaster as well. The guests were also able to pick which experience they wanted whither that was space, underwater, etc. They argued that this virtual reality technology will be released in 2016 and will transform entertainment much like the smart phone did. USC is smart in spending its time and money on this technology because as i learned at the conference, there will be a huge market for it very soon.
