12 Things You (Maybe) Didn't Know About the NEA
NEA: If you’re reading this blog, you know that the National Endowment for the Arts awards grants. And you probably know that we generate arts research too. And that we publish a magazine. But there are things you may not know about your federal arts agency that we would like to share.

You know, I actually didn't know about any of these things before reading this article. I think my extent of knowledge about the NEA is that they give out grants to select non-profit arts organizations. I really had no idea about the breadth of their work until seeing this list, and I still feel I don't know a lot about the organization. I guess I didn't really think about the fact that the NEA's work is so widespread or so widely recognized. It really sounds like the NEA Chairman has a strong motivation to encourage promotion of the Arts at the state level. I am impressed by the NEA's outreach in this respect. They also publish a magazine?! I had no idea! At least for me, or anybody else not actively pursuing an NEA financial grant, the NEA kind of flies under the radar. I can see, however, that they are trying to position themselves not merely as a federal organization doling out cash, but as an organization that produces work, both in the form of their magazine and arts research. Perhaps I will have more reason to visit Arts.gov from now on.
