Here we go again. Another rant by me about the safety and responsibility of employers and their employees. Now, I do not know much about fall safety standards and at what heights it is necessary to engage fall protection, but I do know of many people who have fallen off of 12 foot ladders and gotten seriously injured, and this man was just 6 feet higher than that. Whether or not those six feet are the determining factor of fatal death or whatnot, the matter is that Plancarte was on an unsafe and not fall protective surface and consequently died from the fall. The scary thing is how often people are put into high places without fall protection. Just two weeks ago during load in, Kevin, Chris, Daniel and I were all working on the scaffolding’s upper level without handrails or many supports installed. Not to say that I think this was irresponsible, but just to point out how frequently insecure elevations occur in our kind of work.
