Photo Gallery: What's Trending In Lighting
Live Design: We decided to ask a few lighting designers about the most interesting new piece of hardware or software they had seen or started using in the past year, what they liked about it in terms of technology or a technological advance, if they used it in a real-world application to explain how, and if it was successful. They picked two LED fixtures, one automated luminaire, an iPhone App, and a dongle.

It’s a true pleasure to see what practicing lighting designers today are really enjoying and finding beneficial to their craft. Having taken this time in my life to really grow as an artist and learn the technical side of what it means to work in theater I know I don’t yet know the practical everyday problem solving skills to make the day a little easier so when articles like this come out I still feel heavily connected to the outside world. And within that it doesn’t surprise me that the industry professionals are gravitating toward more mobile control and led fixtures. Being able to see their design from many different angles and change on their own laptop is a real convenience that I seeing the bug industry supplier giant starting to develop more. At this day and age everyone has a laptop and everyone has a smart phone and being able to have these light portable devices on call at a moment’s notice to make a change makes a huge difference.
