Pittsburgh-made movies in categories all their own

TribLIVE: Hollywood in Pittsburgh. At first, it made no sense, like oil and water, toothpaste and orange juice, Cleveland and championships. How are these things possibly compatible?
But the recent made-in-Pittsburgh movie boom doesn't seem to be abating. It's even starting to get a little, well, normal. Even detours for supervillian standoffs, or Chloe Sevigny name-dropping your favorite bar.

I like the pride that Pittsburgh has in the movies they have made. There have definitely been some good movies made in Pittsburgh but do they really deserve the Oscars that Pittsburgh thinks they do? The categories that would made up are a little far fetched to mean anything compared to other movies. Filming in Pittsburgh although it has happened in the past seems to only be happening more in recent years. More and more movies have the potential to be filmed in Pittsburgh. Maybe one of the next few will win an Oscar Pittsburgh could be proud of.

YAY PITTSBURGH PRIDE! I do think it is a little much that we need our own Oscar category. If Pittsburgh is going to get their own category shouldn't other cities also? Could this be a tactic by the Academy to get more films shoot in smaller cities. Who knows?

Its amazing how Pittsburgh seems to be the go to city for the film industry. Regardless of what city the story was based in Pittsburgh seems to be the city that is there for filming, and is proud of it!! What is really cool about this is that no other city can really make this work. When you think about it you can't shoot a film that is meant to be shot in Chicago in New York, its just too iconic of a city. The thing about Pittsburgh is that it is a very diverse city in nature, Downtown is like New York or Chicago, Squirrel Hill is like a main street sort of feel and so on.

It’c cool that so Pittsburgh is becoming such a popular place to film moves, but adding an Oscar category? Really? Calm your tits Pittsburgh. It’s great that there’s so much Pittsburgh pride, but that is so unnecessary. If you really want to brag about the movies that took place in Pittsburgh, do what Boston does and hang up a bunch of movie pictures in the Pittsburgh airport. Just the other day somebody asked me what Pittsburgh looked like, and asked them if they had seen the most recent Batman movie. I think a being able to say stuff like that is cool, and I’m glad I go to school in this city. I just think that adding an Oscar category for the city is kinda pushing it. I mean, as long as you’re doing that, why not make a category for Los Angeles. I head they shot a couple of movies there last year.

I am a die hard Pittsburgher, and love the fact that the film industry has moved into my city. Unlike some of the previous commentors seem to have, I don't take this article as serious. I think it is a tounge-in-cheek look at some of the movies that have been made here over the past decade. The jokes are rampant (the golden pothole) and the categories are ridiculous (Best Eats: People) but this is just to highlight the history of the silver screen in the steel city. And what better a time to do so then during the largest event in the cinematographic year?
