WGA, AMPTP Reach New Three-Year Deal

Backstage: "In the end, the WGA bowed to the inevitable, reaching an accord Sunday with the AMPTP that follows the pattern set by deals in the last few months with the actors and directors.
According to a letter from the WGA to members, the new three-year deal provides for 2% annual wage increases and a one-time 1.5% increase in employer contributions to the guild's pension plan.
SAG, AFTRA and the DGA received 2% annual increases also, and a one-time increase in employer contributions to pension and/or health plans.

This seems all well and nice, but there seem to still be some things unresolved, and the deal has not been signed. The issues are the atypical agreements terms - not raising primetime residuals and the lack of workplace improvements. I know the higher wages will help, but it does not really seem that the WGA has made any really significant improvements (with the possible exception of the new media changes, which were not detailed in this article.

This is nice. No writers' strike this year to ruin television shows. Though really, they conceded to give up first class air travel? Must be rough. This continues to be ridiculous. Unions have gained too much power in this country. No wonder companies are shipping labor over seas. I am not saying what is going on in WI and taking away the collective bargaining rights is the way to go. I am not sure what the answer is but if I did I'd be rich and flying first class all over the world. This is capitalism at its worst. There has to be a better way to pay people proper wages and create safe work environments while keeping operating costs down and jobs in America.
