Financially troubled Intiman seeks cash from Gates Foundation

Seattle Times Newspaper: "The financially beleaguered Intiman Theatre will be seeking emergency funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in Seattle to help keep its doors open. After meetings with the foundation co-chairman William Gates Sr., 'Intiman was invited to submit a proposal,' said theater spokeswoman Becky Lathrop. 'A proposal is being worked on at this point, and we're hoping to submit it very soon.'

This is an interesting article considering what the GOP is doing to the NEA. I'm not sure what side I fall on. But somebody has to be responsible to funding the arts. So it has to be government or big business because nobody else has that kind of money. The Gates have done amazing things for education and the arts and non-profit development. I'm not sure it is their responsibility to prop up the Intiman. I guess that is up to Bill and Melinda.
