'South Park' duo Trey Parker and Matt Stone write Mormon musical

NYPOST.com: "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone demonstrated a flair for musical theater, lovingly sending up its conventions and traditions while knocking out a batch of witty, catchy tunes that echo the beloved scores of the Golden Age of Broadway.
It was inevitable that these guys would write a stage musical one day.

I think its great that the producers of South Park are creating a musical in collaboration with the creator of 'Avenue Q'. It sounds like a great team that is going to produce a really hilarious and over the top show especially since the premise revolved around two Mormons. Although I don't know if I'd consider this type of production that different than other Broadway productions which usually has a common denominator of flash and fluff, I would definitely say I'm glad that the creators of South Park, having been people who were in their earlier days rejected and disliked by focus groups and networks who saw their work and considered it offensive, are creating a musical because it sounds really promising in its humor and heart.

I actually think this is a really great thing. While my immediate reaction was that this could be very politically incorrect, I think that it is appropriate that they are taking the time to really research Mormons. I think that commercially it could do very well, riding off of the South Park association. I believe that South Park is more than just amusing, it has real messages about society. It is also just absurd enough that anything that comes from its creators could be a great musical. Instead of normal situations in which people start bursting into song, the more unnatural things that are bound to happen will be great fodder.
