Dances With Wolves, the Musical, Is On the Horizon

Playbill.com: "A Broadway-aimed musical is being developed from the novel 'Dances With Wolves,' which tells the culture-clash story of a Civil War-era U.S. Army lieutenant who bonds with the native Sioux nation as white people push into the American Dakota frontier."

Haha this is great! I love this movie and the story. But to be completely honest I am really wary to see how it translates to the stage. I agree that it would be an epic performance, but that raises such questions as how would a theater put on the buffalo hunt? Which is something that is pivotal to the story, or something that I always found hard about the movie is that in the end, though it seems like the Sioux will persevere and make it through, we know that they dont. However, I still think that it could be a great show to see

I, like Sonia, love the movie of Dances With Wolves, but I am concerned about turning it into a musical. To me, it could either be absolutely incredible, or it could be terribly offensive (or perceived to be terribly offensive) to Native Americans. Mostly I refer to the show being a musical, and to using a score based in traditional music. I am very intrigued to see what happens from this announcement onwards, and what creative team is chosen as the most capable of realizing the well-loved movie.
