John McKernon Software: "Over four years in the making, Lightwright™ 5 is the next generation of Lightwright. It is in the final stages of testing and should be released by mid August."
This is very exciting! I'm very much looking forward to the new version - especially because this version REALLY talks to vectorworks. Also - the new scroll creating feature saves SO MUCH TIME - especially for the transference of information. Yay! Excitement!
Finally! I've been using version 4 for about 3 years with mild success. Too many bugs when trying to interface between VW and LW -- everyone claims the sync is going to work this time. I'm stoked about some of the new features, like the color picker and the advanced ML functions. There were some really bothersome things about the old version with respects to intelligent gear that I really hope are fixed. Not saying having LW before wasn't bloody brilliant, but I'm hoping it will make my workflow that much simpler and more streamlined. Bravo John for being one of the only one-man-band software developers in our industry with such success!
I had my first lightwright experience this summer when working on Seussical. It quite literally saved my show. The ease of use in exporting from VW was remarkable and I was so pleased with the way the paperwork was exported. Granted this was LW4. Everything I have heard about LW5 is that it is leaps and bounds ahead of its predecessor. I cannot wait to get my hands on this incredible piece of software and put it to work for me.
