That article is hilariously written. I recommend it as a read based solely on its dry, British wit.
Now, the subject.
The author does have a point - it seems more of a gimmick or tourist trap than actual thought out artistic endeavor. Also, the church that's there already sound beautiful.
I agree that this probably isn't going to provide too much cultural enrichment for London; as the author mentioned, there are already many theaters. Perhaps the space can be used for something non-performance related.
There is something to be said for keeping the number of theaters small. This industry is competitive enough without adding even more theaters to the mix. Like Cass and Hannah, I think that this is more of a tourist trap than for the "art". Like the article says, the company should focus on making theater, not building one.
