I think it's wonderful that we're promoting Shakespeare and have that many contestants in the local area! My roommate despises Shakespeare; she thinks he's overhyped and not worth the fuss. I completely disagree and I'm glad other people in our generation feel words written 400 years ago are still as beautiful and lifechanging as ever.
I think that Shakespeare is elegant writing, but can be very dull when transformed for the stage. In my opinion, Shakespeare shines as a educational tool. It is a great way to connect the traditional subjects of English and literature with the non-traditional subject of theater. Often, Shakespeare is taught in the English department and it is an excellent opportunity to get students to be involved on stage at the same time that they are learning this fabulous texts.
