Online Laser Cutting
Props: "Some props shops may be lucky to have them, or have access to them through another department. Others may have worked with local businesses for laser-cutting services. Luckily, with the internet, you can still take advantage of laser cutting if neither of these are available."

It seems pretty recent that automated systems have made it affordable for individual people to get very small production runs. There are also some interesting sites like thingiverse.com which enable independent tinkerers and inventors. To the extent that corporate invention is so focused on technology, and rarely on cleverness, perhaps basement tinkerers like this will be getting some more traction soon.
:O I have bookmarked this for my personal use. I know online communities of amateur prop makers and costumers (and steampunk artisans) without access to shop facilities that would greatly benefit from such services.
This is a really cool service which, similarly, has been available to LD's for years via custom gobos. However, having it available to those in the props department is a very exciting possibility. It seems to be relatively affordable, and for intricate cutouts can save time, and depending on how much time, money.
Ditto to what Cass said. I've bookmarked this and will certainly use this soon. I am so very excited by the slow progression of how this technology is becoming available to independent consumers and the individual. What a great site!

This is great. It's perfect for people with a job that needs to be laser cut, but not enough work or space that they need to buy the machinery itself.
