Directors Guild, studios reach contract deal

Reuters: "The Hollywood directors' union reached a contract deal with major film and TV studios on Thursday in a move likely to renew momentum for settling a 10-week-old writers strike that has crippled the industry and clouded the year-end Oscar season."

"One studio executive familiar with the deal said it was "significantly" more generous than what was offered writers." (excerpt from article) Someone should tell the studios that no writers=no directors. That makes a somewhat problem when trying to direct. In my opinion whatever the screen writers guild wants is probably reasonable. The actors are way too overpaid in Hollywood and the directors, screenwriters and all of the other technical people should get more credit and more pay.

I really wish that we could hear some of the details regarding these negotiations, because it is so hard to tell who is wrong here. From what I had heard back in December, the AMPTP made a very generous over to the writers in regards to internet streams of TV shows. Although I do tend to side with the writers, I cannot say with 100% certainty that it is the producers who are wrong in these cases. (And they better not take the Oscars away from me.)
