Pedaling To Benefit Behind The Scenes

Live Design: "In March of this year, Rich and Becky Wolpert will be leaving their home in the Ozarks of Southwest Missouri and bicycling over 650 miles to the USITT Stage Expo in Houston, TX. The goal of the bike tour is to raise money for The ESTA Foundation's Behind the Scenes (and maybe lose a couple of pounds along the way). They will be riding the same tandem recumbent that they used during the AIDS Rides of the 1990s. Only this time they’re doing it on their own, without the logistical support of hundreds of volunteers."

That is absolutely amazing that these two are so dedicated to do this, especially when it's a quiet setting, no masses of peope in the following. It's obviosu they are already getting press about it, but I wonder how much exposer they'll get with this informal benefit and just how much it'll affect Behind The Scenes. Then again, every little bit counts.

I agree that this sounds like a great idea for a fundraiser, but it seems like the kind of thing that would only be productive with lots of donations, volunteers and press. While its not curing AIDS, it is a really good cause, and I would think with some good organization they would be able to encourage more support in the future.

I think that this is definitely an amazing, very impressive thing to do, but I can't see this getting too much exposure outside of the theatre world. As much as I hate to say it, I don't really see this bringing in too much money outside of any expected donations. Hopefully I am wrong, but I do not know that this will be a huge success. These two people should , and probably will, still receive a lot of recognition for this, which may help them bring in more funds after the event.

This is great. I don't think I would ever do it, but go biking-people! It's pretty great that they're taking up this cause, but I have to say that it will maybe be a little expensive? They're staying at friends' houses, but also at hotels, which can't be cheap. Also, I agree with Corinna, it should definitely get a decent amount of publicity.

I think this is really cool. Behind the scenes is a really important organization, especially in this industry which is so physically demanding. Bike rides are a good way to get people together and raise some money for a good cause, as well as they will be saving money on transportation to Houston.
