West End £250m repairs 'viable'

BBC NEWS: "London's West End theatres need a 'creative approach' to get £250m needed to restore them to their former glory, a London Assembly report has found.
The area's 40 venues were all built before 1937 and many are in 'desperate need' of repair works."

Maybe they could hold some benefit concerts or something. Put on a benefit production with flyers pointing out all the places that need repairs, charge the normal price of a theatre ticket for entry and only put on one or two performances. That could help.

I was in the West End this past spring, and I cannot tell you how excited I am to see some effort to restore the place. Granted, it's still beautiful, but it's beginning to fade and it's a shame to see the history of their theatres just left to decay, despite the various popular shows that keep the West End a trendy place to be. I just hope they don't loose any of the asethetic touches the architect contributed while they redesign. It'll lose some of the romance their theatres hold.

Perhaps West End can start simulcasting their shows like the Met does. They could make a decent amount of money that way, especially if they do this internationally.

With the popularity of shows in London's West End, I am rather surprised that they don't have enough money budgeted for long-term maintenance. If the theatre owners don't want to come up with a creative solution, they will eventually have to do something as the buildings deteriorate.
