Feb. 13: Carnegie Mellon Receives Record Number of Undergraduate Applications

Carnegie Mellon University: "Carnegie Mellon University has received a record number of applications for undergraduate admission for the 2007–2008 school year. Numbers released Feb. 1 by the university's Office of Undergraduate Admission indicate that 22,052 students have applied for 1,360 available seats. This marks an increase of 3,559 applications (or 19.2 percent) over last year, which was also a record year for applications. "

It's amazing that the raising of tuition has not affected the numbers negatively. A lot of people I talk to did not want to come to CMU due to the cost. It seems that quality goes over quantity in this case.

It's nice to see that this Uni has become more popular. I have to admit, I almost didn't come here because of the very high acceptance rate... which really translated into a lower applicant pool than most universities. I don't know, but when an acceptance rate is so high it almost makes you feel like getting in was easy... granted, it's a completely different ball game with the school of drama. But yeah... I feel like people look down or underestimate colleges that appear to be east to get in to.

That's pretty crazy to see. A 19% increase in the number of applicants in one year is almost ridiculous, though it has been shown that college acceptance is getting to be more and more competitive. It just reaffirms by relief that I pretty much done having to worry about college acceptance, but brings up the idea of how competitive the job market is now....
