HITCHCOCK AND HIS FILMS examines the continued importance of one of cinema's greatest directors. In addition to a brief overview of his life and his historical and social contexts, the course explores Hitchcock's use of the camera to explore his idea of "pure cinema" and its
connection to psychological and moral issues. The course also analyzes

how audience-centered his films are and the high degree of audience manipulation Hitchcock sustains in his films. Films to be shown include "The Lodger," "39 Steps," "Shadow of a Doubt," "Notorious," "Rope,"
"Strangers on a Train." "Rear Window," "Vertigo," North by Northwest,"
"Psycho," "The Birds," and "Frenzy."

The course is taught by Richard Rauh who directed the Playhouse Film Series, which, during its 15 years, presented the best works of cinema to Pittsburgh film fans. Mr. Rauh,also well-known as an actor in film and theatre, recently received the Pittsburgh New Works Festival Lifetime Achievement award for his 40 years of work in, support of and passion for the arts. Mr. Rauh teaches theatre and film courses at Point Park University.
