Administrative Director, LMDA (Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas)

Primary support position for a small, nonprofit arts service organization, based out of a “virtual” office in New York City but with a national mandate and international membership. Work week: 15-20 hours per week average, with concentrated periods of heavier workload in spring / early summer around LMDA Annual Conference. Hours are flexible.

The Administrative Director works with and reports directly to the LMDA President with the support of a volunteer Executive Committee and Board of Directors of senior theatre professionals from the United States and Canada. The AD must be available to attend three board/executive meetings per year: two in NYC and one at the annual conference (location changes yearly). Attendance/Administration at annual conference is required (travel and accommodations paid). The LMDA Administrative Director must be extremely responsible and able to manage multiple and varied tasks over both the short and long term. Ideally, this person should be interested in the organization itself and invested in its future.

Regular tasks include: processing memberships; maintaining/updating website, calendar and database; correspondence with board and membership; taking minutes at board and annual meetings; weekly phone conferences with LMDA President; printing, copying, and mailing organizational materials. Must be able to get mail from PO Box at least once/week, respond to email on a semi-daily basis, and be willing and able to handle unanticipated situations as they arise. Responsible for bookkeeping; administering annual budget, conference budget, conference registration; and filing annual taxes.

Requirements: excellent communication skills (oral, written, and web), proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook. Familiarity with Filemaker Pro, web design, and blogware a plus. Basic bookkeeping skills required with opportunities for further training if necessary. Additional potential for creative involvement if desired.

Must be located in NYC. Must be willing to make a long-term commitment (1 year minimum).

Salary: $15,000/year.
