I think we've beaten this dead horse enough. Loved the movie. Can't say I'm going to be enthused about a musical. Seems like (from the picture in the article) that the costumes aren't going to be as fabulous as the movie. And I can understand that, because I'm sure they don't want to outright copy the movie. But I don't see how Seuss can be interpreted many other ways. He has such a distinct style. Not sure this is going to work. It'll be interesting to see.

How many xmas shows do we think there is a reasonable market for? Many companies already pin their entire income strategy to a Nutcracker or to a Christmas Carol.

Doesn't mean something bad for those companies if we're also going to have The Grinch, and The Radio City Christmas Spectacular, and who knows how many other holiday season promotions?

Well, if it has been playing well for the past 8 years, then I say give it a shot on Broadway! I actually wonder how much of the Jim Carey version of the movie stole from the musical (After all, the movie opened 2 years AFTER the musical!) It could be exciting to see what they do with the show on a much larger budget. I am not sure that it has to necessarily fit into a "christmas show" market. It could very easily corss over to being a family favorite. I am sure there are plenty of kids out there who watch the movie in August!

I feel that that The Grinch musical is actually a decent idea. In my mind, shows like the Radio City Christmas Show and A Christmas Carol have a nostaligic holiday cheer that seems unchanged and stuck up. In an attempt to bring more kiddy shows to Broadway, i think that Grinch will bring a younger audience and possibly a renewed fun atmosphere to the "Christmas Show" idea. This reminds me that (my most recent summer stock) Berkshire Theatre Festival is doing A Christmas Carol as their first attempt at a winter season. My opinion... who the hell wants to see A Christmas Carol again?
