HBO is building the town of Sweetwater for an immersive Westworld experience at SXSW

The Verge: Last year at San Diego Comic-Con, HBO hosted Westworld: The Experience, an immersive activation that let guests visit the offices of Delos, Inc., thanks to some impressive set design and the performances of many committed actors. At this year’s SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, the network is upping that ante by recreating the series’s entire town of Sweetwater. SXSW is known its lavish brand activations, but this seems like a significant step up from past experiences.

I LOVE Westworld. I've never watched a more engrossing show or even film. To be able to enter a real life Westworld would be absolutely amazing. The article states: "The two-hour activation will be spread out over two acres, with guests shuttled to the location via a “Delos shuttle” after checking in at a location in Austin. On-site, they will undergo an interview and evaluation process, similar to last year’s experience, and will receive either a black hat or a white one. At that point, they’ll be released into the re-creation of Sweetwater to explore. The location will include the show’s Coronado Hotel and Mariposa Saloon and will be populated with dozens of actors playing “hosts,” Westworld’s name for the robotic characters that roam its setting." This description sounds like a choose your own adventure set in the gritty real world of Westworld. I'd like to make it to this park sometime before I'm too old.

I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS TV SHOW. And yes I do know that I just wrote a comment that was anti-robot-revolution, and you may think that me liking a show about robots and artificial intelligence is ironic but hear me out. This show is an argument against the development of artificial intelligence and robots that can perform as humans. (The following text contains spoilers for the show) While Mr. Ford believes that the hosts are completely controllable, they are slowly becoming more self aware a begin to fight back against the humans that created them and forced them to go under repetitive abuse by the guests. Ford is even creating robots like Bernard, that are created to replace an actual human and act and build on their own intelligence and are basically robot human slaves. These are all reason NOT to further develop the world of robots. I also find entertainment in this show because it is an endless cliffhanger, and I am invested in seeing the plot revealed and in these determined characters, and it is a fantasy reality, which puts my mind at ease. It is a very good sci-fi TV show – I recommend it. This South By Southwest experience seems really cool and true to the nature of the ideal Delos experience. I will be looking out a review and picture of the event, to see if it lives up to the hype this trailer holds it too.
