hey, I wonder who won the Pulitzer prize for drama this year. I don't think I've seen a single article posted on this blog about it. Even if it was posted, it's not as if there are twelve in a row, or anything like that. Besides the snarky comments, I was not actually aware that there was a Pulitzer prize for drama until a few days ago. I am also not familiar with the two plays that were also in the running for the award. It is actually kind of despicable just how little I know about the literary side of theater. I am, to this day, still not completely sure what a dramaturg does. I used to think that dramaturg was another word for playwright (due to the similarities between "dramaturg" and "dramaturgo", the Spanish word for playwright). I've tried asking the dramaturgy students, but it is hard to sum up the entirety of your job in a few sentences. I really wish that there was a class at CMU that I could take that would allow me to learn the exact specifications of what a dramaturg actually does in industry. Maybe it would be useful to have the DPs take dramaturgy 1 with the dramaturgs and directors? Because the current course for this has failed to teach me about the work my fellow students do.
