Stagehands’ union threatens suit against Carmen’s over lack of work

www.thespec.com: A union representing stagehands says it will launch a labour complaint against the Hamilton Convention Centre unless the facility begins giving work to its members.
The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 129 says it notified Carmen's Group Friday that it will take legal action unless union members are given work by April 4.

I feel like all the problems being discussed here are the product of a poorly negotiated contract. No one involved seems to be on top of all the information pertaining to this venues hiring practices and those practices seem to be convoluted anyway. From what I understand, Carmen doesn't assume responsibility for hiring at this specific venue, Global Spectrum does, and that seems to have been made clear in the initial arrangement, so I don't understand why they are suing Carmen. Carmen asserts that all the building maintenance is being done by union workers, but the union is saying that none of its members are working. I hope that the city meetings happening now can clear up all of this confusion and lead to more careful negotiations on both side in the future.
