fashionablygeek.com: Okay, clearly I am not artsy enough to get these shoes because they don’t look like anything other than a new and awkward from of torture.
Freaky! Alright. This is very appropriate to be posted because all of the design shoe projects are now on display! At first I saw these heels and was a little interested, not too surprised. When I watched the video though- I can see how these shows are making a bigger staement than just looking unusual. We rely on fashion and trends so much, there are so many products and nonsensical things to wear and put on your body, its kind of poking at the fact that some of these trends are impractical, unrealistic, and a crutch. I'm sure crazy outfits and articles of clothing though will still be used and worn happily, I know that alot out there are impractical but still fun to wear. This clip of the artist looks painful- she is transformed from a young, current, "fresh" looking person, into an old looking, struggling woman. I'm happy I watched the video because it made me a bit more uncomfortable with the shoes themselves.
I find it so cool that so many design choices are being made that we wouldn't normally think of nowadays. It's also interesting, just by looking at this video, to see just how a fashion choice or an altered fashion design can change the way we move and react to normal everyday activities, such as walking. You can relate this to how actors have to respond and form their characters around their costumes and accessories in order to fully portray their characters and to show just how their character has come to life.
Well I was not expecting that. I have always been in love with high fashion (though there are admittadly time it's taken to far) but I'm a wee bit confused on where the artist is coming from. Well the shoes are a interesting idea I don't see how it makes a comentary on our search for perfection. The artist says they want to explor whats beyond perfction yet they choose a beautiful, skinny model to wear the shoes Well yes the model does look in pain it does not feel like enough to completly convey the stated intention behind the peice. This comes across more as a statment against avant garde fashionthen a statement condeming our desire for perfection of beauty. All that aside I realy do like the concept of the shoes. They part that your foot fits in is really quite similar to a point shoe (as in ballet) but the heel in front removes all the grace from her movment, creating a interesting juxtoposition between her whole look and the way she moves.
Whoa, well, i guess thats an inspiring start to Fabulous Shoe Day today! Those for sure win the award of most insane show I've ever seen. The shoes them selves are amazing, beautifully designed and well built, but I can definitely see why they call them scary beautifully. Its pretty frightening the way the shoes changed the model into someone who appeared disabled. The article didn't mention this, but I feel like that is very representative of and even a warning for all the things people today are sacrificing for "beauty." Although this case was interesting because usually people sacrifice things to do something that makes them feel beautiful, and she was sacrificing feeling beautiful, in order to wear something beautiful.
Wow, this was strange but fascinating! The shoe itself looks very painful to walk in because the foot would be angled past 90 degrees. But the shoe is fascinating also because it looks both dangerous and calm. The lightly tanned leather material looks relaxed and simple, which nicely balances out the dangerous, torture feel. I also found it very interesting that the leg is attached to the shoe. As I was watching the video, the girl used more muscles in her legs and abdomen than people would wearing normal shoes. Instead, she doesn't seem to be using her feet to move; rather, she is using her legs and core for balance and distance. I think it's an interesting piece of art for shoe and pictures, but the shoe itself does not flatter the wearer when walking. I think it would be a great museum piece, and I would like to see more from the shoemaker and the artist.
Scary Beautiful. I see scary beautiful everyday. Just look around campus, or in productions. The fashion industry is an odd world because how many people wear clothes like Scary Beautiful. Making a statement and turning it into a fashion trend is the norm, but if you look at any magazines or fashion shows, the crazy scary is what many high-end designers are thinking. I feel like these shoes are a dancers point show training wheels. The way you must manipulate your body looks unhealthy, unnatural, and probably cant be good for you. I would expect to see this somewhere on stage, not on the street. The fashion industry might not design clothes that people wear everyday, but that has an influence on our industry and research for costumes. It makes an interesting cycle for the world of clothes.
Woah. Well that was interesting. These shoes are definitely more of an art piece as opposed to an efficient mode of walking. It makes the wearer look like something from a horror film. And makes walking so difficult they could never be worn in daily life. So as shoes they're terrible but as an art peace they're actually really cool. They're far out there and not only look like art but what they do to the body is art as well. They transform the body of whoever wears them into something more primal looking. That being said they're still freaky.
So these shoes would literally kill me. I think the idea is great, they look like real shoes, for the most part, but they're backwards! These have got to be some kind of mid evil torture device! They also make this tiny frail girl look like some kind of sickly plucked baby bird. They would be awesome for a costume though if you could find an actor willing to risk their lives for the part!
Ok so I understand that there is a difference between runway fashion and practical fashion, but seriously? Those things are stilts. There is no way anyone can move in those. Then again, the idea of "scary beautiful" is supposed to change peoples' perception of things such as what we consider beautiful and to make us ask if shoes that make a classically "beautiful girl" walk so strangely still encourage her beauty. I think it's interesting how switching where the toe goes in the shoe makes walking almost like a balancing act from the circus. I wonder what would happen if the shoes were just a little lower and if that would make it easier or harder to walk. After just finishing the shoe project, this makes me realize that there is a lot about shoes that we never thought to play with or change. almost all of us did High Heels and, while many of them are very conceptual, no one thought to make them backwards or upside down (I'm not actually sure how that would work, but no one even thought to try and find out) and I think that the designer of these shoes did a very good job at creating something that people think about.
I'm always fascinated by completely new ways of doing something - whether it's the method in which a product is applied or a process is developed, or if the final product itself is used in an unconventional way. Seeing projects such as this one keep our eyes peeled for new ways to approach things in everyday life or in theatre. These shoes are are an example that doesn't always apply to other things, but sometimes something as simple as "Let's just turn it around and see how it works" is an approach that may solve problems in addition to creating a visually interesting result.
If the intention is to explore design and challenge established norms, then I am in complete support of these shoes. If, though, the goal is to sell these to the public, no. Already I am tired of girls complaining of 2 inch high heels but refusing to take them off. They really look like they might hurt, although the support along the length of the lower shin has the possibility of being strangely comforting and cradling.
This is a concept shoe. I hope. Like a concept car. (Google the “2020 McLaren SUV”.) It is flashy and it sparks conversation. It is horribly expensive to produce. In fact there is no intention of doing mass production of them. They are pure style. They are hard to get into and get around in and they are horribly overpriced but man they look cool. They may change the elements of future design but you will not be seeing them on Forbes Ave. any time soon. It is just a concept
I find these so intriguing. I love when people play with what I ideal beauty is. By creating this backwards high heels they are totally changing the way that people view high heels. Typical high heels make someone taller and ads a sex appeal. These shoes require the wearer to bend forward and compress themselves in order to walk and it completely takes away the sexual nature of heel s. I like when people take things that we see in our everyday lives all the time and look at it in a different way and do something new with it.
I didn't want to comment on this article because everyone else is, but...Does anyone else find it disturbing that every time a new product is being displayed a half naked women is the model. I understand that sex sells, but I just get sick of it. Dale - I googled 2020 McLaren SUV - There too is a half nude women in nearly every photo. Makes me think are we buying the product or the sex?
It felt very strange to watch this video. She walked as if she was decripit and old. It made me feel incredibly uncomftable to watch almost as uncomfortable as those shoes lookl.
Okay, really? And I thought Alexander McQueen was out-of-the-box. Also, I'm the kind of person who already has a dislike for shoe shopping. Those look extremely painful to wear, but incredibly brilliant at the same time. They remind me of the stilts the actors playing giraffes in The Lion King use. While they're pretty freaky-looking, I love how a new design like that makes you rethink the way you go about daily activities, such as walking. You're used to walking heel-toe, but what about toe-shin?
Whoa, i have to say i just get sick of it. Do they really need to catch up attention like this....sometimes sex in an inappropriate way just makes people uncomfortable.I mean, Lady Gaga's Fashion is not bad because she knows when and where to show herself. but this, only to remind me of some models in China- the so called "naked model" or "half naked model". I just don't understand, we supposed to use models as a way to sale our products, why nowadays naked modeling becomes a "product".
