A life in theatre: Trevor Nunn

The Guardian: When Trevor Nunn was about to take over at the National Theatre, his predecessor Richard Eyre records in his diary that Nunn gave a brief rallying speech to the troops. It was a taxi-driver story. "'You're that Trevor Nunn, aren't you?' the driver asks. "You directed Sunset Strip. And all that Lloyd Webber stuff. Now you're going to the National Theatre. Tell me, Trevor, what went wrong?'"
