Pitt, CMU get $25 million to study how people learn

My high school did a lot of work on making sure that we learned what our learning style was, and honestly, it never really seemed like there was much of a science or system behind it. I'm not against the research of how to best teach people, I just think that it might be too subjective a topic for real research to ever bear fruit.

I think that the money being put forth for this research would be better allocated to bringing college costs down. $25 million dollars would be a decent chunk to bring the cost of CMU down for many students. Being able to afford an education is as much a part of learning as what they are researching

I think it's exciting that researchers are taking the effectiveness of homework seriously. I'm sure everyone who's been through high school can identify with the frustration of homework that's just busy work or homework they're unable to understand or were not prepared for. I took Spanish for four years, and one of the most frustrating things for me was something mentioned in the article; I could fairly easily memorize a vocab list, but after the test I lost a lot of the new words. I feel that this definitely hindered my ability to learn the language.
