Great White offers $1M to settle fatal fire suits

The Associated Press: "Members of the 1980s rock band whose pyrotechnics sparked a nightclub fire that killed 100 people have agreed to pay $1 million to survivors and victims' relatives, according to court papers filed Tuesday."

As tragic as this incident was, it seems that the victims are casting far too wide of a net with these lawsuits. The people who sound like they were at fault are the manager who ran the pyro and the managers of the club. Nobody has claimed that the band pushed for the pyro or did anything unsafe, nor that the insulation manufacturers made any false claims about fireproof-ness. This seems pretty clearly like litigation gone too far. No amount of money will make this right (although it would have been nice if the manager spent more than 2 years in jail) but targeting more people will increase the number of people whose lives are damaged by it.
