Spotlight: The Rapid Development Of Modern Power Amplifier Platforms
ProSoundWeb: Lately I’ve been guilty of taking power amplifiers for granted, and I doubt I’m alone. Current designs are incredibly capable and reliable; provide them with power, signal, and a loudspeaker to drive and they can often be forgotten about until it’s time to load out.

Ah, here it is, my final news quiz comment of the year. I am honestly very surprised by the capabilities of amplifiers these days. They are extremely powerful for the size that they are. There are tons that can do signal processing with multiple high power speakers. We always think about the amplifier as the place that provides power to the speaker but it is not just that anymore. It almost is a part of the ‘mastering’ process, if you will, of live sound. Amplifiers can now store room EQs and push them out. It is absolutely bonkers. I wonder what where the next few years of sound technology will take us. We have so much possibility in the digital world and so many more uses that we have never thought of. I think that there will soon be a way to automate the EQ and mixing process at a very low level, like a static band for example, and make smaller set ups sound better. It seems like there is a lot of room for improvement with smaller sound systems which will never have a professional using them. I would like to see these improve in quality.
