I clicked to read this article so fast because I thought SAG-AFTRA had better healthcare and benefits than Actors Equity but this article might prove me wrong. And what makes this article really concerning is the fact that they’re not getting sued by one person, but nine participants of their union. This article was a little hard to follow because of the judicial and union paperwork language that is used, but I think that contract language is stupid because it’s meant to be wordy and unreadable, which is not ok because then unions are able to rip off participants, like SAG-AFTRA seems to be doing at this very moment. The fact that the healthcare plan requires you to have a minimum amount of earnings feels really ridiculous, and the only reason they raised it was because the union didn’t actually have enough money to pay their people. The fact that this raise in minimum coverage affects a huge amount of senior actors is really unkind and just sadly inequitable.
