Free NYC Exhibit Celebrates Broadway and West End Theatre

News from the Tony Awards - TonyAwards.com - The American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards® - Official Website by IBM: "Curtain Up: Celebrating the Last 40 Years of Theatre in New York and London" is on display at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts (LPA) in Lincoln Center. The exhibit celebrates the coincidence of two anniversaries of the biggest awards for commercial theatre: 40 years of the Olivier Awards in London and 70 years of the Tony Awards® in New York. By telling the story of the plays and musicals that have won or been nominated for both Olivier and Tony Awards, Curtain Up explores the craft and collaboration that creates spectacular international theatre.

I loved this video! I would love to visit this exhibit if I were in New York. First, the design of the video was great. It was simple, yet memorable and it changed throughout the two minute clip without being aggressive. Not mentioned in the video, is the fact that they will have prompt books from some of the most popular shows on Broadway and the West End. It will be so cool to have our craft visible to the public in a library. I also love that the New York Public Library is choosing represent both countries on their award shows’ historic anniversaries. So often, I wish that we had an education in the creation of theatre in West End. I feel like I hear stories of how it is cheaper and more efficient to produce a show in London than in New York. To know why and how that happens would be interesting. I think that so often we get focused on how we do theatre in America, but we do not get learn about how other countries do it.
