AutoCAD User Interface | Classic

Tuesday Tips: The Autodesk engineering team sometimes receives requests, via the AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT feedback aliases, to restore the Classic workspace. These requests come from folks who feel the ribbon takes up too much room, or folks who just don’t like ribbons. The latest of these emails inspired me to write this week’s tips.

This article is interesting, albeit short. The idea behind this article is a basic one for most CAD programs. You can customize buttons, views, toolbars, palettes, etc. This is incredibly important for making drafting efficient. There are a number of ways to get to various commands whether it is through a keyboard shortcut, menu bar, or icon. From my point of view, using AutoCAD for Mac, it would be more helpful if Autodesk made AutoCAD look and operate as close to the same on both Windows and Mac operating systems as possible. These tips are helpful, but at the same time a lot of these types of view options come from experience using the program. One of the things I didn’t know about AutoCAD is that you can save workspaces. Although, you may not be able to on a Mac because, again, the interface is completely different. It would be nice to be able to do and not waste time resetting where all of my windows are.
