NYTimes.com: Can Sting save his sinking ship on Broadway?
In one of the boldest gambles in many a theater season, Sting will begin acting in the Broadway musical “The Last Ship” — for which he wrote the music and lyrics — starting Dec. 9 and perform eight shows a week through Jan. 10, in hopes that his devoted fans will help turn around the show’s perilously low ticket sales.

Well this is definitely an interesting choice on Sting's part. From what I read in the article, it sounds like the producers are desperate and are trying anything they can think of to make some money back for the investors. I actually applaud Sting for his devotion though. As pointed our in the article, there have been celebrities like Bono that opened shows on Broadway and showed them no support when the ticket sales plummeted and the show seemed doomed. Even more is the fact that Sting isn't even an investor himself. He is not in this for the money, he is actually interested in keeping a good relationship with his business partners and saving face in all of this.
As for whether or not his being in the show will attract more crowds is anyones guess. While Sting's fans are less and less everyday as more people who listened to his music are getting older, they are the type of crowd that could actually afford to go see him on Broadway in the first place.
