Why You Need ADHD Accommodations in College
Psychology Today: If you have ADHD, you are not getting out of the starting gate at the same time as everyone else. It may take you longer to process what you learn in class. It may take you longer to focus and complete a test. Accommodations are adjustments made to your learning so you are on an even playing field with your classmates.

This article was particularly interesting to me since I have a few friends in college who have ADD or ADHD. They both currently have accommodations at their respective colleges, but at the beginning of the semester they felt very awkward about asking for and setting up these accommodations. It can be extremely hard to point out or focus on a certain behavioral or learning flaw to others while in college. My friends told me it was mostly difficult since they did not want to feel like they had to be treated differently than their peers. In college, so many of the people around you are extremely smart and it can be intimidating to draw attention to what makes you different from them. Overall, this article did a nice job of articulating that struggle and explaining what to do when in that situation. Hopefully, the stigma around ADD and ADHD and the struggles that come with them can be fully respected and understood in society.
