Theater prepares for memorial show amid reconstruction

Appeal-Democrat: Colusa Sun Herald: With the peeling '70s faux wood paneling torn down and more renovations to come, Colusa County's community theater started auditions for an upcoming memorial show.

Stagehands, Colusa County's nonprofit community theater at the Colusa County Fairgrounds, began auditions on Friday for "Rumors," a play first directed at the theater by the late Jim Reading. The Stagehands Theatre Board decided to do the piece again to honor Reading's memory as a director, performer and community enthusiast.

It’s nice to see that someone is honored with a show that was their favorite to have put on, even when the circumstances are unbecoming, in this case the member Jim Reading passed away. In this case with their being some reconstruction going on for the theatre I don’t believe it is all that much of an issue, as they say the show must go on, so with or without the construction, I’d say bring it. This past year at my high school in San Antonio, my theatre director was retiring, and her favorite show was Little Shop of Horrors, so low and behold they put it on one more time. I can’t argue against that one bit, she was a wonderful director and teacher, who helped shape me as an artist, and several of my friends. The circumstances are different in this instance, but its shows like these that we remember who they are for, and what they brought to the community that makes them stand the test of time.
