The Great Gatsby and Dallas Buyers Club win design Oscars

www.hitfix.com: The critics may have taken Baz Luhrmann's "The Great Gatsby" to task when it was released last summer, but the film is having the last laugh after a nice box office haul and a few scattered wins on the awards circuit.
Production and costume designer Catherine Martin won Oscars in both categories Sunday night for the film's opulent threads and sets. She pulled the same feat 12 years ago for her work on husband Luhrmann's "Moulin Rouge!"

Unfortunately, I havent gotten a chance to see Dallas buyers club yet, but I am so happy that Catherine Martin won the oscars for Gatsby! Having seen the film a few times now, I think that the world she created was brilliant. I love how she was able to capture the essence and style of the '20s but at the same time elevate it so it would be relatable and relevant for a modern audience. I think this is what really shows an amazing period designer. Also on top of having an awesome concept, I just thought that everything that was created and designed for the film was beautiful and fit the story perfectly.
