Must-see works to catch before Carnegie exhibit ends

TribLIVE: With one week left to catch the show, we asked organizers and enthusiasts to guide procrastinators to the must-see pieces at the Carnegie Museum of Art. The works of 35 international artists have drawn people from around the world — over 100,000, the museum reports — but we know there are a few stragglers.

I finally made it to see the International this weekend and I was blown away by the diversity and innovation shown in the works featured. I loved the art, and can't believe I haven't heard of this exhibit earlier in my life. My personal favorite pieces were the musical contraptions of Pedro Reyes "Disarm." I spent a good 30 minutes observing the pieces, their tunes, and the mechanisms that make them work. I was completely enthralled by the pieces and loved their sounds and designs. Overall, the exhibit has made me want to continue to explore sculpture as a medium this semester, especially of the kinetic sort.
