Blockbuster production: an inside look at building the 2014 Oscars
The Verge: This Sunday the entertainment world will assemble for its biggest night of the year: the 86th annual Academy Awards. The Oscars will cap off an awards season that’s been particularly kind to the science fiction genre, with the space adventure Gravity and Spike Jonze’s futuristic drama Her both up for multiple Oscars — including the honor of best picture of 2013. It will also be a night full of potential for Netflix, which has already scored its first Emmy and Golden Globe wins, and could add an Oscar to the mantle with the documentary The Square.

The set to the Oscars was remarkable. I was moved by all the life size academy awards lined up in the background because it symbolized that everyone was a winner for even being nominated. It also gave me anxiety because it made me want to know more and more who got what.
There is a lot of work that goes into the Oscars. This is almost a production of itself and needs to be a spectacular show. The Osacrs this year looked amazing and the amount of time that went into the design must have been immense. It was interesting to read about the sound design that went into it so that even the viewers at home got a great listening experience. The Oscars are a huge event every year and they did a wonderful job this year.
